Fluffy, chocolaty, simply mouth watering Chocolate Pancakes.

2 Ingredient Chocolate Pancakes

And guess what? they are super easy to make. With just 2 ingredients and some creativity, you can make a delicious breakfast for the entire family for under $1.

I had promised my daughter that I would make her chocolate pancakes this morning, but to my surprise, I woke up and realized I ran out of chocolate! Now, sure I could have just made something else for breakfast.. but if you have a 5 year old and you promised them something and didn’t deliver.. you are never going to hear the end of it!

So I decided to use the cake mix instead. I mean its the same stuff right? flour, eggs, coco powder, baking powder.

To my surprise the pancakes turned out amazing! Soft and fluffy. Extra moist and chocolaty! My daughter and husband loved them so much.

  1. made these today. did not need quite all the liquid. i used water and a yellow cake mix. they were very light and fluffy.

  2. PLEASE HELP ME. IM SO CONFUSED. The more I read the more confused I became. Lol. Are there 2. OR 3. Ingredients cake mix—cake flour—. And milk or water. ???? I’m confused by the use of the “cake flour”. I don’t know if that’s being used to call the cake mix. Or do we in fact add some cake flour in also?? PLEASE HELP. MY LITTLES WILL LOVE THESE well if I can make them correctly. Thanks. Miss Gigi

    1. It’s just chocolate cake mix and milk (or water).

  3. These pancakes did not turn out at all. I don’t know what I did wrong. I used a chocolate cake mix and 1 cup cream and the batter was super thick so I had to keep adding milk because I ran out of cream. 😞I was so excited for these. Do you have to put everything that the cake mix calls for in it? Oil, eggs, etc along with the cream/milk?

    1. The recipe calls for MILK or water, not cream. Cream is much thicker and fattier than milk, so I’m guessing that would be the reason yours didn’t turn out… ?

  4. Terrible recipe. Tried several pans. The batter does not set and is a sloppy mess to flip. Find another recipe. Sorry. This is a HUGE fail.

  5. Ive used this recipe to successfully make waffles!! Thanks so much!

  6. What can I say that hasn’t already been said. Excellent recipe for fluffy and light pancakes. I did let my batter sit for 5-10 minutes to make sure the batter had time to rest. Absolutely perfect – my family raved! Thanks.

  7. So just cake mix and milk ?? Or cake mix as is on the box and add milk sorry im confused

  8. I love this. I have several boxes of cake mix collecting dust in the pantry and this sounds like a perfect way to start using them up.

  9. Just wanting clarification as well. Just the cake mix and milk or make the cake mix as instructed and then add milk? Love the idea.

  10. I just made this with 1/2 of cake mix and 1/4 of water and microwaved it in a mug, oh my gosh! Amazing.

    1. That sounds so good! I will try it soon, Thanks Olivia!

  11. I’m not sure I’m understanding. How much flour are you adding to the 2 cups of cake mix? And no eggs? Seem delicious but I need to be sure of how much flour and cake mix to add. Thanks.

  12. I was wondering if this would work cooking it in a waffle maker?

    1. Yes it does! I’ve made it a few times in the waffle maker and they turned out great!

  13. This also works with cheap muffin mixes. My kids enjoy strawberry and apple cinnamon as well as chocolate. Thanks for the reminder, though. Was looking for breakfast for this weekend.

  14. I’m not sure I’m understanding. Just the cake mix and milk? Or make up the cake mix and then add milk? Could you spell it out for me?

    1. Hi stacy,

Just mix the flour itself with milk or water. You might need to add a little more/less milk until the batter is like pancake batter. Let me know how they turn out!

  15. Yummm! I’m going to date myself here. Ever see Bill Cosby…Himself? He is to feed the kids breakfast one morning. He asks what they want, they reply chocolate cake. He thinks about it–eggs, flour, milk–nutrition!! Chocolate cake for breakfast. Kids overjoyed ruckus brings mom downstairs. She’s less enthused I’ll say. Made me chuckle.

    1. Thanks Janet!
Oh wow that’s a classic! I have got to see that episode. Bill Cosby is right, Eggs, Flour, Milk.. Nutrition! 😀 You know what they say, great minds think alike 😉

      1. Bill Cosby also said, “Take these pills,” and then diddled them…AND worse!

  16. Yum! These look amazing! I’m going to have to try them this weekend. I bet you could use any kind of cake mix, that opens the door yo all kinds of possibilities. I’m a new follower through Pinterest, Twitter, & facebook.

    1. Thanks Leslie! Yea it really does open the door to a ton of possibilities. I will be trying some more flavors this week and posting them to let you know! 🙂

  17. This is such a great idea! To be fair though, it’s really not two ingredient pancakes. I found this on Pinterest and the title “2 Ingredient Chocolate Pancakes” is what drew me to it.

    1. Hi Aliesha, I am sorry if you misunderstood. The two ingredients are the cake mix and the flour I added. Anything besides that is just creativity! 🙂

      1. Hi Layla,
Your pancake recipe sounds delicious, but I don’t understand why you say “cake mix flour” instead of just cake mix. It’s confusing people with the flour part. For some there’s no confusion, but others there can be because there is cake flour. On your reply to Aleisha on 12/8/13 you said; only thing two things you use is the cake mix and the flour. Which I’m sure you meant cake mix and milk. But I did notice there are several comments of people wanting to know where the flour part comes in. It would simplify for those that do not bake regularly on the difference between just stating cake mix and not cake mix flour.
I do thank you for sharing the wonderful recipes.

      2. Miss Layla, is that cake mix. +++ flour. +++ milk ? I’m so confused and it sounds like maybe others might be also. I’m not sure if your calling the “cake mix”. “Cake flour”. Or if your using 2 different. Things.

  18. Oh my what a fantastic idea!!! I’m heading to the kitchen now!! My son’s Birthday today and I was cruzing looking for a breakfast idea!! Thanks so much! I’m pinning this to our board! Thanks for linking up to DIY Sunday Showcase!!
