Brooklyn Style Pizza with Caramelized Jalapenos Onions Peppers and Broccoli   Forgetting to pack something or visit a place is one of the downside of traveling, “do I have everything I need, did I get everything done??”. Then your half way home and you realize you forget to bring your toothbrush or in my case, grab a slice. It’s one of those essential things that you have in the back of your head but gets lots within all the clutter of travel. After visiting Brooklyn this weekend and forgetting to stop by my favorite pizzeria, I found my self craving craving it in such an unexpected way.Brooklyn Style Pizza with Caramelized Jalapenos Onions Peppers and BroccoliIn attempt to make myself feel better I decide to go for it and make the pizza at home. I’m sure it was not exactly the same as the pizzeria but I know it was delicious! I caramelized the onions, peppers jalapenos, and broccoli and added some ranch sauce on top. Dang, I was sure pleased by how great and satisfying it tasted!  I think anything caramelized is bound to taste great! or maybe it was the ranch sauce..  Brooklyn Style Pizza with Caramelized Jalapenos Onions Peppers and Broccoli

Brooklyn Style Pizza with Caramelized Jalapenos Onions Peppers and Broccoli

Ingredients 

  • Pizza Dough
  • 2 2/3 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 1/8 cups warm water
  • 3 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup sliced onion
  • 1/2 cup sliced bell pepper
  • 1/2 cup broccoli
  • 1 small jalapeno sliced, optional
  • 1 cup Italian blend or mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup marinara sauce
  • 1 tablespoon butter or oil
  • Ranch Sauce
  • ¾ cup whole milk greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon fresh minced parsley
  • 1 tablespoon fresh minced chives
  • ½ tablespoon fresh minced dill
  • 1 small clove garlic
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1-2 tablespoons buttermilk or milk

Instructions 

  • Dough
  • In large mixing bowl combine 1/8 cup water and 1 teaspoon sugar stir and set aside for 3-5 minutes until the mixture starts to bubble.
  • After the mixture has began to bubble pour remaining 1 cup of water, oil, and flour. Mix until a dough texture forms. Knead for at least 3-5 minutes until the dough is soft in elastic in texture. rub the dough with oil and cover for 30 minutes to rise.
  • While the dough is rise start working on the toppings and ranch sauce. Pour 1 tablespoon butter or olive oil onto a heated pan, pour onions, peppers, and jalapenos. Saute on medium heat for 5 minutes until the veggies begin to caramelize. Pour broccoli and stir in for 30 seconds. Set aside.
  • Ranch Sauce
  • In a small bowl, stir together all ingredients for the ranch dressing except for the buttermilk. Stir in buttermilk, 1 tablespoon at a time, as needed to thin out the ranch if desired.
  • After the dough has risen heat oven to 500˚, punch down dough and cover for 10 minutes while oven heats.
  • Roll pizza on our on a surface covered with flour or cornmeal ( or a mixture of both, that's what I do). Place pizza on pizza stone or pan.
  • Spread sauce on pizza. Sprinkle the cheese and veggies evenly over pizza.
  • Bake on low rack for 12-6 minutes until the edges are golden.
  • While pizza is warm drizzle ranch sauce as desired.
