Keto Chaffles are all the rage now and if you’re on the keto diet then I’m sure you’ve heard about chaffles. Chaffles are low-carb, keto-friendly, sugar-free, and perfect for just about anyone looking to reduce their carb intake! 

Today I’m going to show you how to make traditional chaffles quickly and effortlessly in under 10 minutes. Chaffles are a great “carb” fix in the morning when you’re craving waffles or something bread and are also great for using as a bun for burgers sandwiches, or bread for just about any sandwich.

WHAT ARE CHAFFLES?

The word “chaffle” refers to a waffle made with just cheese and eggs. Basic Chaffles do not contain flour, baking powder, or any other ingredients. The mixture of egg and cheese makes the perfect fluffy waffles that have a slightly crunchy and cheesy exterior. This viral low-carb trend is super keto-friendly, super easy to make, and SUPER low in carbs so it makes the perfect keto bread. 

WHAT WAFFLE IRON SHOULD I USE FOR CHAFFLES?

Chaffles are usually made in this small dash waffle iron. It’s great because it’s very small and makes the perfect size chaffles that can be used as a serving of bun or bread. The 4’’ diameter makes it the perfect size bun, egg muffin, bread, and sandwich size.

It’s super CHEAP (under $10) heats up quickly and is pretty easy to store because it’s super tiny. It also comes in a bunch of cute colors so it’s well worth it if you will be making chaffles or even traditional waffles) regular! 

This recipe makes 4 small chaffles or 2 regular standard Belgian waffle iron-size waffles. Any other waffle iron should work but be sure to fill it just enough to fill the iron. 

WHAT KIND OF CHEESE TO USE FOR CHAFFLES

Chaffles can be made with practically any type of melting cheese. If you will be using the chaffles as a bun or bread, go with shredded cheddar, pepper jack, Monterey jack cheese, or any cheese blend (Mexican blend, taco blend, pizza blend). 

If you are making the chaffles to serve with syrup as waffles, mozzarella may be a better option because it does not have a strong flavor and will taste like regular waffles.

I personally like to use cheddar because I’m a big fan of cheddar so it’s really up to you and what you prefer or what you already have in your fridge! 🙂 

HOW TO MAKE CHAFFLES

Whisk eggs & any melting cheese and place in a mini (or regular size) waffle iron for 2-3 minutes or until crispy and golden.

You will know the chaffles are ready when they have puffed up, developed a crispy crust and pull away from the waffle iron with ease.

WHAT ELSE CAN I ADD TO CHAFFLE?

  • To make a chocolate chaffle: Add 2 tablespoons cocoa powder and 1 tablespoon sweetener to the batter. 
  • To make a pizza chaffle: Add 2 tablespoons of pizza sauce and 1 tablespoon of almond flour to the batter. 
  • To make a pumpkin chaffle: Add 2 tablespoons of pumpkin puree, and a tablespoon of almond flour and sweetener to the batter. 
  • To make garlic parmesan chaffles: Add a few tablespoons of parmesan cheese, a dash of garlic powder, and Italian seasoning to the batter. 

CAN I FREEZE CHAFFLE?

Yes, chaffles are freezer-friendly. Place them in a freezer-friendly bag and freeze for up to 14 days. Re-heat in the toaster for a crispy texture or microwave for 30-60 seconds.

Ingredients 

  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup finely mozzarella, or cheddar

Instructions 

  • Pre-heat dash waffle iron.
  • Whisk egg and cheese in a medium bowl.
  • Spray waffle iron with cooking spray or butter.
  • Pour about 1/4th of the mixture into the waffle iron and cook for 2-3 minutes or until golden. Remove and repeat for remaining batter.
  • Serve as waffles with pancake syrup or use as bread for sandwiches!

  1. I hate eggs, but I made these 2 eggs1 cup of cheese, I used mixed Italian,little garlic powder, little bacon lovers seasoning and let me tell you they were delicious! Made on mini waffle maker. Keep eggs and cheese in house and you can do about anything with this recipe yummy

  2. I haven’t made chaffles for over a year and was a little rusty. I looked at some recipes that required a lot of other ingredients and settled on yours for the simplicity. I didn’t recall needing a list of ingredients the last time I made them.
    I did add a little cinnamon to the batter, but that was it.
    They were great! I have a 2 waffle machine and there was plenty of batter. They came out perfect!
    Side note – I now have a continuous glucose monitor and tracked the results from eating two chaffles. No insulin necessary! Chaffles are back!

  4. Delicious! I made the garlic parm ones and had a side of no sugar added pizza sauce to dip them in. So good! Can’t wait to make them again

  5. How many grams of cheese will that be? It makes a huge difference in how you pack your cups with things like cheese. You could easily double the amount if you pack tightly. It’s very annoying having to guess weights when given random volumes.

      1. Depends on cheese. Shredded cheese is 4oz per cup.

  6. This chaffle recipe was great! I used shredded Colby jack cheese because it was all I had available. I also added the 1 tbsp Almond flour. I sprinkled a little loose cheese in the waffle iron then added the mixture and topped it with a few more strands of the loose shredded cheese. I closed the lid of the waffle maker and cooked until the steam disappeared. The chaffles were light and fluffy with crispy edges. Just perfect! I added 1 Tbsp low carb pizza sauce, 3 slices of pepperoni and some shredded cheese to the top of the chaffles and heated them in my air fryer for 4-5 mins. This made perfect mini pepperoni pizzas.   7. My biggest problem is snacking and these will fill that bill and not hurt my calorie/carb count like other foods, and they taste good to boot! I dislike most keto foods so bravo to these!

  8. My first Chaffle! This was so good! I only had a little mozzarella so they were about 50/50 mozzarella and cheddar. We made 4, added some breakfast sausage to the waffle maker cooked it about 30 seconds, added an egg and cooked until done. Added that to the chaffles with a few drops of SF syrup. Really good breakfast sandwich! Thanks for the recipe!!

  9. Just made my husband a chaffle sandwich. He loved it!! Just made the chaffle with a provolone, mozzerella mix. Made the sandwich with grilled onions, an extra piece of provolone, thin tomato slices and two thin sausage patties.It was yummy!!! Thanks for the recipe!!

  10. I found this recipe in 2020 (I think..), and I have made it countless times since. Sometimes, less really IS more, and this recipe embodies that. It’s quick and simple and can be used in a variety of ways. Generally, I use these chaffles as a substitute for sandwich bread and I couldn’t be happier!

    Blown away!
    My husband says delicious but he follows WW and one is 8 points
    But I don’t!
    Best thing ever!!
    He was making steak as I unboxed my mini and mixed these up. I decided to make a half batch.
    But my eggs were very small – a bit bigger than a robins egg but still…?
    So I used two very small eggs, a few shakes of a no salt herb shaker mix and half a cup of motz. Then just in case, I added a sprinkle of parm.
    Made one plain. Delicious 😋 the next I added some of the mushroom/spring onions husband used for the steaks very finely chopped and added two 🥓 that one was a tad salty but also delicious! The third I added three thin slices of smoked turkey on top and pressed a moment to heat. All were just folded in half and devoured.
    AAHHMAZING!!!

  12. When you are diabetic and have to watch your carbs, this little chaffle maker is literally a lifesaver. I’ve made chaffles with chives added and used them as hamburger buns. The cheese is already there and all you need is the burger patty, a slice of tomato and some lettuce and…voila…dinner!

  19. I’ve got a question please. Would the chaffle cook correctly if I put the cheese and eggs in a blender to get a better ratio of cheese/egg in each chaffle? Or do you need that texture from the cheese to make it crispy. Thanks for sharing this simple yet versatile recipe….ummmm, chocolate too!

    1. I’ve done this because I wanted a smoother texture. It works fine but I’d recommend a food processor rather than a blender. You don’t want the egg to froth up too much and get foamy or it gives them a weird texture.

  20. I love Chaffle’s and I thinly sliced avacados and put on top and then a little shredded cheese so the avacado wouldn’t burn and it was delicious!

  22. Delish! I altered the recipe for my cuisinart belgium waffle maker. 3 eggs plus 1 1/2 cups mozzerella cheese make 2 large waffles. Great recipe for college students too!

  23. I had loads of fun with this recipe! If you are a foodie dreamer, the possibilities are literally endless. I uhm, didn’t measure, but used 2 eggs, a large handful of cheddar, Goya Sazonador Total, a crumbled slice of Gouda (bc I wanted to get it outta the fridge), and a tablespoon of Almond Flour. They turned out excellent in my mini waffle iron! Thank you for sharing this and all the tips as well! After reading I was confident to just try my own spin on them! I appreciate it 🥰

      1. You need to preheat waffle iron, then once you close it set a timer for 5 minutes. No peeking! It will be perfect. A cheesey mess means it didn’t cook long enough.

        If you’re speaking of overspill, that means you added too much batter

    2. I just used the recipe with mozzarella cheese and they turned out great. So, I decided to do it again with a tablespoon cocoa powder and tablespoon apple sugar sweetener, topped with sugar free maple syrup… to die for! I live low carb with this tasty treat🥰

  25. This recipe just changed my life. I used them for soft taco shells last night and couldn’t believe how good they were! I made mozzarella with banana extract and sweetener for breakfast and sooo delish!
