Matcha!! Ever since I tried this iced matcha latte a few years ago, I’ve never turned back. It’s so creamy, refreshing and tastes like no other drink. I crave the iced version in the summer and usually end up picking up a glass at my local Starbucks, but it’s so expensive; $4 a cup? no, thank you. This homemade version tastes just as good, if not better for a fraction of the price.

The milk and matcha powder is mixed in the blender to remove any lumps. This means you can double or triple the recipe and store the remaining Matcha in the fridge for the rest of the week. To use, simply pour into a cup of ice and enjoy!

The trick to making a good matcha latte is a good quality matcha powder. Matcha powder is one of those things that you should spend the few extra pennies and get the good brand because matcha varies in quality. Generally, the lighter the matcha the better quality. Stay away from matcha that looks olive or brownish.

What is Matcha Powder?

Matcha is a type of powdered green tea that is mostly grown and produced in Japan. During the last few weeks of their growth, the tea leaves are shaded from the sun to increase their chlorophyll content and produce the vibrant green color. The leaves are then ground to produce a fine powder which is used in recipes for making teas, lattes, smoothies, and even ice-cream.

Iced Matcha Green Tea Latte

Creamy and refreshing homemade version of Starbucks Iced Matcha Latte made in the blender in under 1 minute.

Instructions 

  • To the bowl of a blender, add the milk, matcha powder, and vanilla syrup.Blend for 30 seconds to 1 minute or until the matcha is lump free. 
  • Pour into a cup of ice and Enjoy! 

Notes

*Double or triple the recipe and store the remaining matcha in mason jars in the fridge for the rest of the week.

So far I’ve made it with2% milk and turbinado sugar syrup and the froth it made from blending was so creamy and delicious!   7. I was craving Starbucks but didn’t want to make the trip there. I just tried this recipe and it’s so good! I used honey and vanilla extract to sweeten it. I also tripled the recipe so I can store it in the fridge for the rest of the week. I can’t believe how easy it was with ingredients I already had at home, this is going save me a lot of $$

  8. It tastes almost exactly like the Starbucks drink. I didn’t have the vanilla syrup, so I used 2 tsp of Maple syrup and 1/4 tsp of Vanilla Extract.

  12. Just made this this morning and it’s wonderful!! I tweaked a few things though. First I mixed my matcha into about 4oz of hot water first then stuck it in the freeezer for a few mins. Secondly I found that mixing it with Vanilla Almond milk with a touch of honey eliminated the need for additional sweeteners! Mixed it all in a shaker with ice. LOVE IT!

  14. Trying to switch from coffee to green tea for health reasons. This recipe was very helpful with the ratio of powder to liquid. I find that using the $2 (yes $2) IKEA small battery hand held stick frother was quick and easy without having to dirty the blender. Just add powder to cup of milk, froth with the stick and add ice. Absolutely no clumps/grains.

  16. I used an organic Matcha powder that my sister bought off of Amazon. I first followed the instructions on the bag, which was to sift the matcha powder and mix it with hot water to make a paste. I also mixed a bit of sugar into the paste. My sister tried making a latte with this powder before and said it was too bitter and grainy. But then I came across this recipe, which was a lifesaver! I put creamy oat milk, a little honey, and the matcha paste into a blender, and WOW! It was amazing. I think what made it taste so good was the oat milk and putting air into the drink from blending it. The color wasn’t the prettiest (probably from the oat milk), but the taste was so much better than what I was expecting. Definitely going to make this again. 😊

  19. 2 Tsb matcha powder and 1 vanilla premier protein shake (11 oz). Delicious!! No sweetener needed since the shake is sweet enough for me.

    2. I followed the recipe exactly and the milk didn’t even change color… Is there a reason why? My drink looked sort of like grey almond milk.

      1. The reason your drink was grey was the difference in the quality of the matcha green tea.
        To get the beautiful green you need a ceremonial quality of matcha.

        Google and study the differences. 😌

  21. Wow this is really good. I’m not an iced latte person at all – never even tried one. However, I’m trying to add more green tea to my diet and I was told matcha green tea was the best for anti-inflammatory purposes. Awesome taste.
