Keto-Friendly Taco Seasoning

If you’re on a keto diet then finding a keto-friendly taco seasoning that does not contain cornmeal, corn starch, sugar or any other fillers can be a nightmare. Most commercial taco seasonings are loaded with fillers and it’s usually posted as the first ingredients. These hidden fillers are high in carbs and can sabotage your low-carb efforts.

Instead, try making your own homemade taco seasoning and you will notice a big difference in flavor without the added carbs!

This is my favorite homemade taco seasoning and it has very high ratings on my other blog! I’ve tweaked the recipe a bit to make it keto-friendly without sacrificing flavor. This spice mix makes the perfect ratio of spice to salt and other flavors that can be used to seasoning ground beef, chicken, shrimp, and even veggies.

  1. This seasoning was a big hit with my family. I had a hot pepper flakes to mine to give it a little bit more of a kick. I will be using this recipe from now on instead of wasting my money on the pre-made packages of taco seasoning that you find in the stores. I feel that this had more taste and flavor than anything I have ever bought in the stores.

  2. 3 grams of carbs in a half of a Tablespoon????? Good Grief thats redic! Same as store bought

    1. The fact you complained about the total carb count instead of the net carb count tells me everything I need to know.

      1. So it’s 2 net carbs for 1/2 TBSP (8 for 2 TBSP) and store bought is 3 net carbs for 2 TBSP… I may very well be missing something though.

  3. Just made this and it tastes great! Love this recipe! I’ve been looking for a taco seasoning recipe so I don’t have to use the store bought. This is what I will be using from now on. THANK YOU!

  4. Thank you so much for this recipe. It’s so flavorful and my family cant tell the difference from this and store bought. I can though as it taste much cleaner to me. I mix up a bunch and store it in 8oz mason jar. Definitely a win in my house!

  5. I’ve tried a lot of different taco seasoning recipe, and this is the first one that I actually prefer over the store-bought packages! Great recipe!

  6. To confirm, this recipe makes 8 servings each servings is 1/2 Tablespoon = 3 carbs?!

      1. A half tablespoon would be 7.5 grams if it was full of water. Since this is looosely packed powder, it couldn’t be more than 6. How can this source mix be half carbs?

    1. The Garlic, Onion, Chili, and Paprika all have some carbs (descending in that order).. Of course with 1 gram of fiber the net carbs in this is only 2.

  7. I liked the flavors. A little too salty for my taste. I used Mexican oregano instead of Turkish. Also added 1/2 teaspoon of xanthum gum to the mix so that it would thicken like the packaged mix. I also added 1/3 cup of water with the taco seasoning.

  8. How much water do you use per pound of meat?

    1. You would use as per the recipe but generally, it’s 1/4th cup.

      1. Thank you! I have been using a little too much. I found a similar recipe that said 1/2 cup water per 2 tablespoons of each seasoning but it takes a bit to cook it out

      2. Are the nutrition facts per serving or for the whole recipe?

        1. Way too plain and bland for my family. Will not use again, just a waste of spices:(

  9. This recipe turned out great! I planned family taco night and didn’t have a taco mix packet. My kids said it was better than the packet. I didn’t have dried minced garlic. Instead of using fresh I substituted with garlic powder.
