Light, creamy and refreshing iced matcha latte made at home, in the blender in under a minute. This Starbucks copycat recipe taste just as good for a fraction of the price!
Matcha!! Ever since I tried this iced matcha latte a few years ago, I’ve never turned back. It’s so creamy, refreshing and tastes like no other drink. I crave the iced version in the summer and usually end up picking up a glass at my local Starbucks, but it’s so expensive; $4 a cup? no, thank you. This homemade version tastes just as good, if not better for a fraction of the price.

The milk and matcha powder is mixed in the blender to remove any lumps. This means you can double or triple the recipe and store the remaining Matcha in the fridge for the rest of the week. To use, simply pour into a cup of ice and enjoy!

The trick to making a good matcha latte is a good quality matcha powder. Matcha powder is one of those things that you should spend the few extra pennies and get the good brand because matcha varies in quality. Generally, the lighter the matcha the better quality. Stay away from matcha that looks olive or brownish.

What is Matcha Powder?

Matcha is a type of powdered green tea that is mostly grown and produced in Japan. During the last few weeks of their growth, the tea leaves are shaded from the sun to increase their chlorophyll content and produce the vibrant green color. The leaves are then ground to produce a fine powder which is used in recipes for making teas, lattes, smoothies, and even ice-cream.

  1. I made this and wow it was so delicious!!! I used part pistachio milk and part whole milk. I also used a tablespoon of coconut sugar and a tablespoon of honey. I used the matcha packets from Trader Joe’s and noticed a few others have done the same. I loved it. I will be making different variations of it

  2. Try the Matcha Green Tea latte mix from Trader Joe’s! It’s really good and only $3.99 for 8 oz.

    1. The latte mix from TJ is mostly sugar and creamier but it does taste good!

    2. I read the ingredients then didn’t buy it. But yes, heard it was tasty

  3. Iam using carrington farms culinary matcha powder from Walmart and with your recipe with almond milk can you please tell me that Iam using tge right brand of matcha powder?

    1. I haven’t tried that brand so I can’t really say as to how good it is. I order the matcha from amazon.

      1. Carrington Farms, in my opinion, is not the best. There are other culinary matchas that taste better. You don’t have to have the ceremonial brand for lattes to taste good.

    2. Use ceremonial grade matcha it’s more expensive but worth it

    3. Culinary matcha is more appropriate for baking sweets, for drinks it should be premium/ceremonial matcha. The bright colored one. Culinary matcha is usually the lowest quality matcha and is therefore more bitter in taste in contrary to better quality which tastes richer and sweeter.
But you can use either if you so wish.

    4. I also used the Carrington Farms powder with Oatmilk as it’s what I had on hand, it’s not bad but the Matcha taste is not strong enough for me. I will be buying some ceremonial matcha in the future.

  4. This was excellent! I recently bought matcha to try and cut down on coffee. Since I haven’t had experience making it I was a little intimidated. This recipe was simple and delicious! Thank you!

  5. Im not a huge fan of Matcha in particular but this made it taste pretty decent. It’s the best it’s going to get for me.

    1. Pretty tasty! I also make mine at home with quality matcha powder and half 2% milk and half Vanilla Ripple milk and a splash of vanilla extract. Blend with frother wand then add ice. Definitely one of the best tasting recipes!!

  6. Made it using oat milk- absolutely delicious!!

  7. Would it taste good if I use monkfruit sweetener and some vanilla extract?

    1. Did you ever try it with the monkfruit and vanilla extract? I’m cutting calories and both of your subs here sound like good havks to the original!

      1. It’s great with monk fruit sweetener! i tried it today with vanilla almond milk

  8. Thank you for the recipe I want to make these at home as they are SO expensive. What Brand of Tea are you using?

      1. That is what I just bought from Amazon I’m gonna give it a try.

  9. It is simple and it tastes good, but what you don’t mention is how thick it is after you’re finished blending (at least if you use whole milk, I haven’t tried other kinds of milk). It’s ALL thick froth. It takes a good long while for the drink to settle into something drinkable. I ladle out the thickest of the foam into a couple different cups, so it settles faster. I think I’m going to try blending the matcha with the syrup and a small amount of water first, then add milk and blend for a much shorter time to avoid making an entire blender full of thick creamy foam.

    1. Hi!!! Ok the first thing you want to do is add 1/2 a cup of boiling water to the tea to dissolve it. Add this to a 12oz glass of ice. Add your honey, and milk. Stir. Absolutely delicious!!!!!!

    2. Pro-tip coming from a barista: Mason jar, add 2 tbsp of water, matcha and your ice. Shake like crazy. Pop the top, add your syrups and milk, shake again. No chunks and minimal foam! 🙂

        1. This is delicious next I first made it on 8/18 and only did 2 tsp of vanilla but I would add a little more and little less ice mine was so thick but it’s still delicious and will definitely keep making it

  10. Thank you so much for this recipe! I love starbucks matcha green lattes and have been wanting to make them for myself. Finally got my matcha powder in the mail and I’m loving it! I think I’m going to use vanilla syrup next time instead of sugar because I do like it a bit on the sweeter side. Thank you again!

    1. What’s the best kind of matcha green tea powder to buy

  11. I’ve now made this 2 days in a row. First day I used 1% milk because that’s all I had. Second day, I used Kirkland brand unsweetened vanilla almond milk. Both days this recipe was delicious. The matcha powder I used is The Republic of Tea, and there was zero graininess to the drink at all. If you’re debating about making this, you should definitely give it a try!

  12. I love this recipe! I used to get the Starbucks matcha lattes but I like this one better. I like that I can control the amount of sweetener/matcha in it. And it doesn’t leave clumpy matcha at the bottom like Starbucks matcha lattes do. Thank you so much for sharing this recipe!

    1. Hey! I would recommend putting it in a mason jar or a container with a lid, and then shaking the matcha with a few tablespoons of water and the ice. then add your sweeteners and milk!

      1. But can you stir it? I’m not sure if I have a jar like that for just drinking out of. Even if it’s not the best quality is stirring also an option?

  13. I would rather use water than milk but didn’t taste as good as hot with water, any recommendationns?

    1. Traditional matcha tea is made with hot water but is a little strong for the western palate. I suggest add a splash of half and half or cream!

  14. Just made it this morning instead of coffee the only downside is I can feel the grainy texture of the matcha powder after I take a drink. Maybe it’s the brand of matcha powder I got, it got it from Walmart. Any recommendations? Thanks!!

    1. I suggest using good quality matcha powder which is more like powder and not grainy at all. Have you checked on amazon?

    2. I buy mine at Publix is around $14 and it comes in a square metal container.

    1. I haven’t see matcha in tea bags so I don’t know if you are referring to green tea or matcha powder.

      1. World Market has it inn Tea bags but I don’t particularly care for them. I prefer the Matcha Green Tea Powder Mix (has sugar) from Nuts.com

  15. This is so good! I used almond milk half the sugar and feel much better about drinking one everyday . Can’t wait to tell the ladies at work since we have all been buying expensive matcha drinks from the coffee places.

    1. Made my first one came out great my only question is should you heat the milk with the other items re hony etc or just heat the milk and pour it over? Thank You!

  16. I’ve tried Starbucks iced Matcha Latte and I like yours better! Very good! Thank you!

  17. When I get my iced green tea latte at Starbucks I always get a venti. I always have 6 or 7 large scoops of matcha. I tried making it at home the way I like it but it never tastes right. Where can I get a good matcha powder? I think that might be my problem. Do you have any other suggestions? I also use soy milk, unsweetened and 1 pump of simple syrup. Please help.

    1. I actually make mine the same exact why from Starbucks. The trick is to use good quality matcha powder! They have good matcha powder in Trader Joes and on amazon.

    2. Probably isn’t tasting the same to you because the first ingredient in the matcha powder Starbucks uses is sugar, it’s not just matcha powder. Also the soymilk they use is sweetened vanilla soymilk

  18. This was AMAZING! Truly enjoyed it. I was so worried it wouldn’t be as good as I hoped in comparison (nothing ever is it seems) but I was surprised! My boyfriend and I downed it and had to make another one immediately after. Absolutely perfect! Actually, it’s better than starbucks completely. I used the choice of milk, the vanilla syrup, and 2 tsp of matcha powder!

  19. Very good recipe. I used almond milk as an alternative and it is soo good. Followed directions as listed and came out great.

    1. Personally, I like mine with vanilla syrup, sugar, AND honey and it tastes PERFECT to me 🙂

  20. Delicious. Almost like Starbucks. I used soy milk and added a couple of strawberries.

  21. I rec using tablet SWEETENERS as they have 1 to nothing calories per tablet

  22. I recommend the Matcha Green Tea powder from trader joes. the single serve packets are good and they have no sugar.

  23. yesterday it was so hot and humid and I found your recipe just in time. it was so delicious and more healthier than starbucks, thank you 🙂

  24. This was so goood..i added the vanilla and agave. Will make it everyday this summer.thabk you

    1. Try Jade leaf, they have a match A latte mix, you can sign up and get a discount on your order either through the Jade Leaf website or amazon.

    2. I recommend the Matcha Green Tea powder from trader joes. the single serve packets are good and they have no sugar.

  25. Omg i just made this RECIPe, and in my opinion this was actually way better than other iced matcha lattes that i had tasted from OTHEr COFFEe SHOPS which in the past have made me feel a little bloater, this didnt make me feel bloated at all and i had a larger cup than i usually order At a coffe shop, will definitely be making This more in The future!
