Super fudgy and dense cocoa brownies are gooey on the inside, have a crinkly top, and are made with just 6 ingredients in under 30 minutes! This easy recipe makes the BEST brownies and is the only brownie recipe you will ever need.

I’ve got a super-easy yet DELICIOUS fudgy brownie recipe for you today. Brownies can’t get any fudgier or easier to make than this folks!

These brownies are fudgy, dense, rich, and super chocolate and with just a few basic ingredients and 30 minutes of your time, you’ve got yourself a batch of brownies that is out of this world!

They’re so chocolaty and delicious my only worry is eating the whole batch right out of the oven…

The super fudgy interior along with the crispy crinkle top is a combo made in heaven and will become your new favorite brownies!

A few years back I was hooked on boxed brownie mix and to be honest I thought they were “alright”. I mainly used the mix because it’s very easy to use because the thought of making brownies from scratch terrified me. Turns out, it’s not hard at all!

It may take any extra step making it from scratch but I swear it tastes 1 billion times better and once you try it you will NEVER EVER go back to brownie mix again!

Like I said, these brownies are simple and easy to make. The entire brownie mixture will be made in the pot or bowl you decide to melt your butter.

To save yourself time and effort, melt the butter in the same bowl that you will be mixing the brownie mix in. I like to use a glass microwave-safe mixing bowl so I can go right in to add the rest of the ingredients after melting the butter.

After melting the butter add the sugar and cocoa and stir until fully combined. Then add the eggs, vanilla, flour, and salt; mix and you’re done!

If you like you can now add 1 cup of chocolate chips, nuts, m&m’s, marshmallows, Reese’s or whatever your heart desires!

TIP FOR MAKING THE BEST FUDGE BROWNIES

Don’t overmix the batter. Overmixing the batter will allow air to get trapped in the batter and will result in cakey brownies.

Don’t overbake the brownies. If you are looking for fudgy brownies then remove them from the oven when the sides have begun to shrink away from the sides of the pan but the center is still gooey.

Cool before cutting. As hard as it may be, resist the urge to cut the brownies right out of the oven. Instead, cool them to room temperature or place them in the fridge to cool for at least an hour before cutting into them. This extra step will result in perfect professional cuts.

If you’re like me and you love CHOCOLATE, then do yourself a favor and chop up 4 oz of baking chocolate and stir them into the batter. This will take the brownies (which are already AMAZING) to the next level and make them EVEN BETTER.

Notes

For EXTRA gooey brownies: Add 1 tablespoon oil of choice to the batter along with the butter.
Doubling the recipe: This recipes also doubles really well in a 9x13 pan, add 5-7 minutes baking time. To double, adjust the serving size above to 32.
The sweetness: The recipe calls for 1 cup of sugar; feel free to use between 3/4 cup - 1 1/4 cup depending on your personal preference!
Don't over-bake. Be sure to bake these brownies for no more than 20-25 minutes. Overbaking the brownies will make them dry and cakey.
The serving size: we cut the brownies into 16 small brownies and the serving size is per brownie. To cut into larger brownies, cut into 9 large peices.

  1. These were delicious! I added some chocolate chips and they came out great! Easy to make!

    1. This is officially my go to brownie recipe. I’ve made it five times during quarantine. Three I dropped off as birthday presents and two we kept. This is my ideal brownie.

  2. I have to say I’m was edgy about this Recipe and I did it step by step and all I can say is WOW. This is one of the easiest put together recipe and it’s amazing! I added a little dark chocolate chips and man oo man I making this one over and over again! Thank you !!!

  3. This was truly divine. Bit too sweet but no other complaints! Thank you for this 🙂

  4. Tried this recipe the other night and we absolutely loved it!

  5. Made these as written EXCEPT made with 2/3c erythritol instead of sugar AND my kids dropped my last egg that was egg #2. Subbed the egg w baking soda and ACV. Topped with a swirl of Nutella before baking. As I was putting them in the pan it looked like very little batter but they actually rise beautifully. When they first came out of the oven (19 min in 8×8 glass) they were very cake-y. But once cooled very fudge-y and delish. Oh. And super easy!!

  6. I doubled up the amounts of incredients, added a sprinkle of baking powder, expresso powder, 1 cup of chocolate chunks and 1 cup of white chocolate chunks.
Baked for 35 minutes in a bigger pan.
It was so fudgy and delicious the corners were slightly chewy and I love it!

  7. A friend of mine has Celiac disease, but really wanted to try these. I’m happy to say that this recipe is just as good gluten free. Chewy on the edge and gooey on the inside.

  8. So, funny story. I accidentally made these with a full cup of flour instead of half a cup. I must have thought I was measuring with a 1/4 cup so I did it twice. They’re still really yummy though, even with the extra flour! I followed the suggestion of adding the extra tablespoon of vegetable oil and 1 cup of chocolate chips (half milk, half semisweet). Because I used the milk chocolate chips I decided to only go with 3/4 cup of sugar instead of a full cup, and they’re still perfectly sweet! Even with my error, I love this recipe and I can’t wait to try it again (correctly next time). Thanks for sharing 🙂

  9. I’m in the middle of making these but noticed there is no baking soda in the recipe. Is this correct?

    1. Yes there is no baking soda, I was surprised too, but mine turned out just fine.

  10. Just made these. I used 1 cup of sugar and added the tbsp of oil for extra gooeness. They’re not dry. Next time I will reduce sugar to 3/4 since I’m the only one who’s going to be eating them haha.
They’re not dry! Thank you 🙂

  11. These are amazing!! My sister just randomly asked me to make brownies so I looked for a recipe that worked with what I had in house at 11 pm. I cut a little of the sugar out and probably added too many mini chocolate chips, but these are perfect! Gooey, with the nice crinkly top and a fantastic flavor – rich but not so rich that it makes my stomach hurt. This is definitely going to be my new go-to!

  12. These brownies are delicious! This is a great recipe, if you follow the directions..they will be perfect! If they came out chalky and dry, you must be doing something wrong. My family loved them!

  13. These brownies are delicious! This is a great recipe, if you follow the directions..they will be perfect! If they came out chalky and dry, you must be doing something wrong.

  14. These brownies I made for my moms birthday and I did everything the Recipe said I am a very good baker and have baked for years. This recipe is terrible they came out so dry and almost chalky. No one at the party liked these I spit my out the batter was very thick and did not rise at all. I would not recommend this brownie mix ever!

    1. I’m not sure why the recipe did not work out for you. These brownies are SUPER gooey so I can’t wrap my head at them being “chalky”. Did you change anything in the recipe?

    2. I’m baking these now and they aren’t rising either.

      1. Loved this recipe!! A new go to for sure! It was super easy and quick. My family loved it! We added some mini marshmallows and it was super good. I can’t wait to make more.

  15. SOO GOOD!! These are some of the best brownies I have ever made! I added half a cup of chopped walnuts and half a cup a chocolate chips and they were delicious!! I doubled the recipe and cooked them for about 25 min and they turned out great! super easy and fun! I don’t see how anyone could mess these up!

    1. This recipe was super quick and easy to make, not only that they came out so well and so so yummy!
Thank you so much for sharing this recipe ❤️

  16. Love this recipe… indeed gooey and not the usual cakey brownie. Thanks for sharing! I tried this recipe 2 different ways. One is to stick to your baking time and the other i had actually overbaked with reduce sugar but both are still good!

  17. Oh. My. Stars.

These brownies are light, airy on the edges and fudgey-center! Perfect!

Our additions were white chocolate chips (ghiradelli), Hershey chocolate bar broken in chunks, and a swirl of melted peanut butter. My batter was on the thick side.
My pan was a glass 8×8 and so greased it with coconut oil (refined and no smell of the coconut is present in the kind I have). It cooked at 325 degree f for probably 25 minutes. (Cooked till an inch from the edge was done so when a toothpick was inserted it came out clean).

Would totally keep this recipe in my go-to stash.

  18. Taste is awesome but somehow mine came out cakey and dry.. When I put in the flour I missed it just enough to blend it in. The batter was extremely thick, is it supposed to be really thick? I was worried it was going to turn into dough… I only cooked for 20 minutes and that was too long.

  19. Great easy recipe! I used this to make brownies in a waffle iron. They came out chewy and delicious. I’ll use it again to make normal brownies for sure.

Fudgey brownies should not rise in the oven, they don’t need a leavener. This recipe is not dry. I don’t understand how you could get dry brownies from this recipe if you use all of the ingredients. Honestly this is a pretty basic fudgey brownie recipe. It’s similar to others I’ve used. I don’t get the negative comments at all.

  20. Excellent recipe! And easy to make. This is my go to brownie recipe.

  21. These are ok I guess, they are not super good but they are ok. Add a tad bit of oil, milk or baking powder after you mix and before you put it in the pan. They are SUPER sweet and are very dry. I wouldn’t recommend.

    1. I don’t recommend changing the recipe. Did you substitute anything in the recipe? Maybe that’s what caused them to become dry.

  22. Oh my – just delicious beyond belief! I’ve never done the hour in the fridge part but that makes for a wonderful crisp top.
As a family we always bake, and cook from scratch so happy I was out of some of the usual ingredients as this is now my go to !
Thanks so much for sharing- one happy lockdown family 😀

  23. Made ’em. Loved ’em. They had to bake nearly 10 minutes longer than the recipe suggests. But the end result was excellent.

  24. I made this recipe tonight. They turned out perfect…so easy to make! Thanks for sharing this recipe.

  25. I tried to make it then it turned out more like a cake base than brownies… not sure what I did wrong.

  26. These are pretty good not gonna lie. I didn’t have my normal box mix so I resorted to this. The batter was really thick and I was worried when there was no baking powder added. My batter came out more dense than normal but I added a tablespoon of oil and it helped a little. The brownies were more dense than usual, but if u want to fix it then just add some baking powder. They didn’t stick to the pan at all which I normally have a big problem. They are chocolatey and gooey. I cooked them for 16 minutes rotating sides halfway.

  27. I love this recipe! I am 11 years old and not very experienced but I made this and my whole family loved it! I added a tablespoon of vegetable oil and they turned out amazing. Thank you so much, I will never use a box mix again!

    1. Emaan, I have a daughter your ages who loves baking and this is one of her favorites as well! Keep on baking and thanks for stopping by! 🙂

  28. Read good and bad about this recipe. I searched for a homemade brownie recipe for a while . This one sounded the best . Turned out perfect. I did twice the recipe a little . I used just under a cup of sugar, almost a cup of all purpose flour and 1/2 tsp baking powder.
