These chicken and avocado wraps are packed with grilled chicken, ripe avocado, cheese, and a hint of lime and cilantro. You can also add some ranch or a spicy mayo for extra flavor. They’re a perfect balance of creamy, savory, and fresh flavors, making them a great option for a quick lunch or a light dinner.

I shared the original recipe a few years back and it was a huge hit all over the internet, especially on pinterest. The recipe has been pinned over 1.8 million times! Because I get so many requests for this recipe, I decided to share a few other ways we love to have these wraps.

What you Need:

You can make these wraps as simple or as complicated as you want but let’s stick with the simple version for time’s sake.
Chicken: You can use any type of cooked chicken. Rotisserie, grilled, shredded, or pan seared chicken all work well.

Avocado: The key here is to pick an avocado that is soft and ripe so that the filling is creamy and delicious.

Cheese: You can use your favorite cheese! The possibilities are really endless. We like to use Colby or pepperjack for an extra kick. A fun Mexican blend or any other shredded blend will also work wonderfully.

Sauce: You can add your favorite sauce or simply use sourcream, mayo or ranch. Here are a few delicious sauce options that will elevate these wraps.

How to Make Chicken Avocado Wraps

Making these wraps is so easy! Simply combine the chicken, avocado, cheese, sour cream or your favorite sauce, cilantro and a drizzle of fresh lime.

Transfer some of the mixture onto a large flour tortilla and wrap tightly. Crisp in a hot pan with a teaspoon of oil. Serve with salsa or your favorite dipping sauce and enjoy!

Recipe Tips

Be sure not to overstuff the wrap and use tortillas that are big enough to hold everything.

The best part of this wrap is the fact that it is lightly toasted and crispy on all sides. This also helps to ensure all of the ingredients are held together.

You can use any tortilla you like best. To make these gluten-free, use a gluten-free tortilla.

Can I make these ahead of time?

Because avocado goes bad after a few hours, I suggest not making the filling more than 6 hours ahead of cooking. These wraps are best enjoyed fresh while the avocado is green and the tortilla is crispy!

What goes well with wraps?

The best sides to serve with wraps are French fries or potato wedges, onion rings, chips and salsa, corn on the cob, coleslaw, corn and tomato avocado salad, or grilled vegetables.

  1. If you have leftover and put in refrigerator, do you eat them cold the next day or warm them up. Thanks.

    1. What’s the best way to heat these up if you freeze some?

  8. Hi, I was wondering what spice mix you use for the chicken? I’m also using yoghurt for lower fat result and substituting the cilantro by fresh basil.

  9. How do you heat these up from the freezer? Thaw first? Straight into microwave?

    1. You can put them straight into the microwave for a 2 mins, more or less depending on your microwave. I like to microwave for a minute then toast in toaster oven for another minute to get a nice crispy exterior.

  10. I substituted Greek yogurt for an even healthier alternative to sour cream and added some chopped tomato for fun, and these turned out fantastic! Will definitely be making again.

  11. Love this recipe! Made my second batch tonight and I keep craving them! I skipped the cilantro because I hate cilantro and they are still delicious:) thank you!

  13. Looks great but question: With the sour cream in the mix, when you reheat it, does it taste weird or is that the desired effect?
