The flavor of the cilantro lime chicken along with the fresh avocado, tomato, onion, and lime is a combo made in heaven. This tasty meal is a must try especially if you are on a low-carb or keto diet. The lean chicken and avocado will keep you full for hours with just 5 net carbs (minus fiber) per serving! The chicken can be marinated ahead of time and kept in the fridge or freezer for easy prep. If you’re in a rush and do not have time to marinate the chicken, use the chicken right away and it will still taste great.
To Make grilled CIlantro Lime Chicken you will need:
- Fresh boneless, skinless chicken
- Garlic, minced or crushed
- Fresh Squeezed lime juice
- cilantro
- seasoning
Combine all the ingredients in a large bowl or ziplock bag and use right away or marinate up to 24 hours in the Refridgerator.
Grill the chicken on an outdoor grill or indoors in a heavy duty cast iron pan or skillet (<-this is the one I use and my favorite for grilling chicken!). Use an instant-read thermometer and cook until the temperature reached 160F or until the chicken is firm and no longer pink.
While the chicken is grilling, prepare the salsa by chopping up (as big or small as you’d like) avocado, tomato, onion, and cilantro. Gently combine the chopped veggies along with with a drizzle of lime and a dash of salt & pepper.
To prepare ahead of time: prepare no longer than 2 hours ahead of time and cover the avocado salsa with plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator until ready to serve.

Grilled Chicken with Avocado Salsa
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 pounds boneless skinless chicken breasts or 4 chicken breasts
For the Marinade
Avocado Salsa
- 2 avocados diced
- 2 small (or 1 large tomato) chopped
- ¼ cup red onion chopped
- 1 jalapeno de-seeded and chopped (optional)
- 1/4 cup cilantro finely chopped
- Juice of 1 lime
- fresh cracked pepper & salt to taste
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk all the ingredients for the marinade and set aside.
- Pound the breasts to even thickness or slice in half horizontally to get evenly sized breasts and add to the bowl of marinade. Mix through until the chicken is fully coated in the marinade. Use right away if needed or marinate for 30-minutes or up to 12 hours.
- Grill chicken over medium-high heat or in a large heavy-duty skillet on the stovetop for 5-6 minutes per side or until the inside is cooked through and the outside is charred. Top with fresh avocado salsa and serve immediately.
To Make Avocado Salsa
- While the chicken is grilled, combine all the ingredients for the salsa in a small bowl. Cover with plastic wrap in the fridge until ready to use.
I have also used this recipe with pork chops and haddock.
Delicious and so easy to make.
This salsa is everythingg, I’ve made it again numerous times just to eat with chips. But the salsa with the chicken goes so well together, perfect for a summer dinner and I was thrilled with how juicy the chicken stayed!
this was amazing!!! All 5 of us in my family loved this marinade and the Avocado Salsa! I was requested already to make it again soon!!! Delicous!
This was amazing! I froze the chicken in the marinade and used it a few days later. It was perfect! I stirred avocado into store bought pico, it worked great! We loved this dish!
This was delicious! I just recently started going whole 30 and have been looking for easy healthy meals, and this recipe is perfect! I made my salsa more of a guacamole by mashing the avocados, and it is seriously the best I’ve ever had( I added some cumin and paprika). Thank you for this!
Cooked this tonight for myself and my girlfriend. I’m not a keto guy, but our neighbour has a massive avocado tree and we had most of the other ingredients in our pantry already. The meal came out fantastic. Bear in mind that I’m a New Zealander, and our taste-buds differ from Americans’ (we don’t like sugar as much). I think the key is to make sure you get a good char-grill on the chicken. I smoked my house out, but it was worth it. Will definitely cook this again.
Oh my goodness, this is the most delicious, and easiest meal we’ve had in so long. I marinated my chicken breasts for 3 hours. The avocado salsa is amazing. I would eat it at least once a week! Thank you so much for sharing your recipe.
Amazing! I didn’t have a grill so I baked it at 400 for 20 mins and it was delicious. If you aren’t a big fan of lime I would use half a lime. My tastes buds are so happy. Definitely making again!
Absolutely delicious! First time making it and the flavor is superb!
Absolutely to die for! First time cooking chicken and it was so DELICIOUS! I used chicken tenderloins instead of the chicken breast and it worked just as perfectly. Highly recommend this dish!
I made this last night and it was absolutely DELICIOUS!! I will definitely be adding this to my rotation of chicken dishes…. I am not normally a fan of grilled chicken breast but this was flavorful and different. It was a last minute meal idea, so I did not marinate the chicken for long, and I’m sure it would be even better if marinated for longer! The avocado salsa was divine, I added some extra jalapenos. My favorite thing about this dish was I did not have to come up with any sides for it, everything was there on one plate and I was stuffed to the max when I was done. Thank you so much for this recipe!
That was SO yummy. Made mine with banana peppers in the Avocado Salsa. This recipe is a keeper. Moist and flavorful
I didn’t make the chicken. Instead, I just made the salad. It is DELICIOUS!!!! The jalapeño is not optional. Every flavor blended perfectly. Even using the cracked salt and pepper enhanced the flavor. I could just eat this with no meat. Thank you!
Is the avocado salad a make shift sauce or the side dish. I want to know if I could pair it will cauliflower rice.
So delicious. We make it at least once a week.
2-19-20 made this dish today and it was fabulous.
Will definitely be a once per week meal.
Delicious!
This was amazing i made it for my sister and mother and they loved it
Woooow…. It’s the only thing that taste good! And so easy to do…
I think I will look for these and try your recipe this weekend. Thank you for sharing!

This was fantastic! My teen daughter usually complains that we always have chicken. She went back for more tonight. This is a keeper!
Sounds just like my daughter! I’m happy to hear that she liked it 😉
This recipe was delightful! Loved how flavorful, but simple it was. I served it alongside some Mexican style cauli rice, and it was great!
You had me at avocado! The salsa is basically how i make my guac and I even added pepperoncini to this salsa. easy dish, super delish! thank you.
This is a favorite ready…
These recipe’s are delectable i cant wait to try them all.
Delicious and easy to make! I made it on our outdoor grill, but that is my favorite way to cook in the summer. I would also do this in a cast iron frying pan on cooler days:) This recipe is definitely a keeper, the whole family loved it.
absolutely delicious and so fast an easy to make. The whole family loved it. Thank you for posting this recipe. Will definitely make it again.

Whoo hoo, I had it and it was delicious!
this was aMazing!!!!!!!!!
Phenomenal recipe. Made as written except used chicken tenderloins instead of breasts. Put the grilled chicken on a large platter and cover with the salsa. It looked beautiful. Served with brocolli and roasted new potatoes with rosemary and it was a huge hit! Highly recommend!
I would give this recipe 10 stars if that was an option. It is delicious. Have made it twice in the last week.
This was delicious and very easy! will definitely make this again!
Jalapeno in the video but not in the recipe. Which is it?
It was listed in my viewing stating it was “optional”
Hi, What grill did you use. I”m interested in buying an indoor grill
That’s not an indoor grill in the video. It’s a staub grill pan used on a cook top. They ate a out $100 at williams sonoma and other retailers.
I’m not on a keto diet, just obsessed with AVOCADOs. This was so refreshing and delicious. It will definitely be added in my recipe rotation!
We aren’t really doing “keto,” but this looks like a perfect summer dinner for my family. It sounds amazing!
