What You’ll Need To Make Nashville Hot Fried Chicken Wings

For the Marinade:

  • Chicken Wings: I like to use a combination of wingette and drumette for these chicken wings.
  • Buttermilk: The buttermilk aids in making the chicken tender and full of flavor.
  • Hot Sauce: Use any of your favorite hot sauce to kick up the heat for the marinade.
  • Pickle Brine: Give the wings the right amount of salty goodness with some pickle brine.
  • Seasonings: Cayenne pepper, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper are wonderful together to give that intense flavor we all love.
  • Vegetable Oil: You will need a couple of cups of vegetable oil for frying.

For The Coating:

  • Flour: I use all-purpose flour because it gives the perfect coating.
  • Seasonings: You’ll need some more seasonings for the coating.

Nashville Hot Sauce:

  • Butter melted: You can use some melted butter or the leftover oil you used to fry the chicken.
  • Brown sugar: To counteract a little bit of the spice, add in some sugar. It’s amazing!
  • Seasonings: Red pepper flakes, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, chili powder, salt, and paprika go well together to give you a sensational result.

How To Make Nashville Hot Fried Chicken Wings

To begin, you will first need to prepare the marinade. Combine the chicken wings in a bowl with the buttermilk, hot sauce, pickle brine, and seasonings. Put the bowl in the fridge for a minimum of 4 hours.

Note: For even more flavor, let the chicken marinate for a full 24 hours!

After the chicken has marinated, you will need to add the flour and spices to a shallow bowl. Place the chicken in the flour and coat.

Heat the oil in a skillet then once it’s hot, add in the chicken wings. Fry for 8-10 minutes or until they are golden and crispy. The internal temperature needs to be 165 degrees and they are done.

Prepare the sauce by combining the melted butter (or oil), brown sugar, and seasonings in a small bowl.

Place the chicken wings on a wire rack so they can drain. Then add the homemade Nashville hot sauce on all sides and enjoy!

Can I Make Wings For A Crowd?

Yep! Of course, you can make wings for a crowd. I find it’s best to use a fryer instead of a skillet when I am making a large number of wings. This makes the process go faster.

Store the wings in a crockpot on warm, an electric roasting pan on warm, or in the oven at 250 degrees until you are ready to serve. All of these methods work well for keeping them warm until you are ready to serve them.
