Learn how to make the perfect Keto Chaffles (cheese waffles) at just 1 net carb each with just 2 ingredients in under 10 minutes! These keto chaffles make the ultimate breakfast and keto-friendly buns.

Keto Chaffles are all the rage now and if you’re on the keto diet then I’m sure you’ve heard about chaffles. Chaffles are low-carb, keto-friendly, sugar-free, and perfect for just about anyone looking to reduce their carb intake!

Today I’m going to show you how to make traditional chaffles quickly and effortlessly in under 10 minutes. Chaffles are a great “carb” fix in the morning when you’re craving waffles or something bread and are also great for using as a bun for burgers sandwiches, or bread for just about any sandwich.

WHAT ARE CHAFFLES?

The word “chaffle” refers to a waffle made with just cheese and eggs. Basic Chaffles do not contain flour, baking powder, or any other ingredients. The mixture of egg and cheese makes the perfect fluffy waffles that have a slightly crunchy and cheesy exterior. This viral low-carb trend is super keto-friendly, super easy to make, and SUPER low in carbs so it makes the perfect keto bread.

WHAT WAFFLE IRON SHOULD I USE FOR CHAFFLES?

Chaffles are usually made in this small dash waffle iron. It’s great because it’s very small and makes the perfect size chaffles that can be used as a serving of bun or bread. The 4’’ diameter makes it the perfect size bun, egg muffin, bread, and sandwich size.

It’s super CHEAP (under $10) heats up quickly and is pretty easy to store because it’s super tiny. It also comes in a bunch of cute colors so it’s well worth it if you will be making chaffles or even traditional waffles) regular!

This recipe makes 4 small chaffles or 2 regular standard Belgian waffle iron-size waffles. Any other waffle iron should work but be sure to fill it just enough to fill the iron.

WHAT KIND OF CHEESE TO USE FOR CHAFFLES

Chaffles can be made with practically any type of melting cheese. If you will be using the chaffles as a bun or bread, go with shredded cheddar, pepper jack, Monterey jack cheese, or any cheese blend (Mexican blend, taco blend, pizza blend).

If you are making the chaffles to serve with syrup as waffles, mozzarella may be a better option because it does not have a strong flavor and will taste like regular waffles.

I personally like to use cheddar because I’m a big fan of cheddar so it’s really up to you and what you prefer or what you already have in your fridge! 🙂

HOW TO MAKE CHAFFLES

Whisk eggs & any melting cheese and place in a mini (or regular size) waffle iron for 2-3 minutes or until crispy and golden.

You will know the chaffles are ready when they have puffed up, developed a crispy crust and pull away from the waffle iron with ease.

WHAT ELSE CAN I ADD TO CHAFFLE?

Honestly, the possibilities are endless. I will be sharing more chaffle recipe variations in the upcoming weeks (be sure to follow us on Facebook here to get all the updates!).

  • To make a chocolate chaffle: Add 2 tablespoons cocoa powder and 1 tablespoon sweetener to the batter.
  • To make a pizza chaffle: Add 2 tablespoons of pizza sauce and 1 tablespoon of almond flour to the batter.
  • To make a pumpkin chaffle: Add 2 tablespoons of pumpkin puree, and a tablespoon of almond flour and sweetener to the batter.
  • To make garlic parmesan chaffles: Add a few tablespoons of parmesan cheese, a dash of garlic powder, and Italian seasoning to the batter.

CAN I FREEZE CHAFFLE?

Yes, chaffles are freezer-friendly. Place them in a freezer-friendly bag and freeze for up to 14 days. Re-heat in the toaster for a crispy texture or microwave for 30-60 seconds.

  1. I haven’t made chaffles yet…….just ordered my Dash, but the thought crossed my mind that a Monte Carlo sandwich would be good (my favorite from Bennigan’s years ago)…….make basic chaffles and add some chopped ham, shredded swiss cheese, and a tablespoon of sugar free raspberry jam! YUM! Hope my Dash comes soon!

      1. We still have one here in Mt. Pleasant, Mi. Love the Monty and Kilkenny chicken salad!

    1. You can use cream cheese. I’ve seen people who will use cream cheese when making a dessert chaffle. The ratio is pretty much the same, 1 egg, 1ounce cream, 2 eggs, 2oz cream cheese, etc. Play around with it and see what ratio works best for you. 😊

  2. What kind of cheese did you use with blueberries

  3. I’ve made these several times and love them but how do you compute just one net carb each? The info on the package of mozzarella cheese is 2 carbs per 1/4 cup so just the cheese would make them 2 carbs plus the egg each. Thank you

    1. You have to subtract the dietary fiber from the total carbs to get the net carb

      1. Assuming the eggs and cheddar cheese version, what is the dietary fiber amount and there is no sugar, right?

        1. Preshredded cheese has a starch added that prevent clumping and adds carbs. There is no fiber in it. Better to shred your own if you’re on a strict keto regimen.

          1. I never knew that about pre shredded cheese. Thank you for that tip.

          2. Make this for bread! Just bread! I haven’t had bread since November 2021. Thank you for this awesome recipe

  4. I’m gluten free, not following Keto, but I bet this recipe would be great as a pizza crust or to make “breadsticks” with garlic or garlic “bread”. I just purchased a mini waffle maker on discount and made GF wild Maine blueberry waffles which were awesome. This little gadget is opening up some options, especially with easy recipes like this chaffle one that can be added too for different flavors. Thank you!

  5. Loved this because it had a nice cheddar cheese flavor and didn’t taste eggy. I used a little parmesan and some garlic powder too.

  6. Wait a minute! I just realized that quite a few of my new favourite recipes are from your site 😀

Anyhow, I finally tried chaffles! I don’t have a small iron but one egg and 1/2 cup cheese filled my Belgian waffle iron perfectly, so I whipped up the batter for just one at a time (instead of trying to guess what half the batter was). Lucky me, my iron switches off at exactly the right time for these to be perfectly done, so I don’t even have to time them.

I tried the first batch with marble cheddar and egg, but now I am excited to try some different cheeses and add ins…. tomorrow.

    1. So happy to hear that you are enjoying the recipes <3

  7. This is my go-to recipe. I added some Frank’s Red Hot Buffalo Ranch seasoning and it was amazing!

  8. This was just so awesome! I couldn’t believe how filling and satisfying the chaffles were. Thank you!

  9. I’ve read these reviews and I cannot believe my eyes…..why does some have to be so critical? Does it make you feel better about yourself? Shame on you. Keep your opinions to yourself and just be KIND!

    1. Amen, Bailey. Keto is getting to have a cruel reputation for biting the heads off innocent people and harping on its own members to the point of neurosis. Live and let love and for Pete’s sake, be a kind human being. These people have no lives and just feel compelled to attempt to control every one else’s lives. When they see a ray of sunshine they snap shut the blinds and claim the light will kill you. Shameful.

  10. These were lovely…thanks for posting. Brown, crispy and yummy!
To get rid of the eggy taste try just adding a few drops of apple cider vinegar. I have no idea why it works but it does.

  11. I want to include this in My Fitness Pal app.

  12. Made my first chaffle today! One XL egg and 1/2 c shredded Colby cheddar cheese. Spread 2T homemade guacamole and then topped it with sautéed mushrooms, green peppers and diced onions (1 t only).
Amazing! And way below my macros!! Can’t wait to try other variations!

    1. Did you add the extra ingredients BEFORE cooking, or after?

  13. Yum! I used the full recipe in a Belgian waffle maker cooked for about 5-6 minutes and it came out perfect! I indulged in a slight dunk in Walden Farms (I know, I know) pancake syrup and it was amazing! Thank you!

    1. I use Walden farms syrups all the time. I am new to Keto . Are they not good for keto?

      1. Maple or fruit syrups are basically pure sugar. Fine, unless you’re avoiding carbs.

  14. Heart attacks diabetes and dramatically aged skin but who cares as long as you not fat right

    1. How does eliminating sugar cause diabetes? And why would you have a heart attack if you are eating heart healthy fats and green veggies?

    2. Are you seriously this dumb? Or just jealous, with no life?

    3. Um, keto and low carb can actually help control diabetes and lower cholesterol. Unless you can’t stay on it. If you diet every other day, like some people do, this is NOT that. Count calories or points or molecules or whatever. Don’t do keto or low carb if you are just trying to lose those last few and you want to eat Ben and Jerry’s every other day. You will gain and all the other stuff that person said. But steady on keto and all of that goes away with the weight.

    4. Are you aware that people on Keto do fasting? Do you have any idea how good fasting is and what it does for the body? Yep, didn’t think so. If you are miserable and want to lose weight, I suggest consulting someone who can help you and stop attacking others who this works for. Thank you, move on and go eat a Chaffle.

    5. Chill out and get the facts straight before you criticize. Your sarcastic comment doesn’t even make sense.

    6. Excuse me.. you may want to explain yourself. I was newly diagnosed diabetic with an A1C of 7.6 declined meds bc I’d just lost 8lbs my first week of Keto.
Accepted a glucose monitor, tested 10x a day. Had already added half my body weight in oz for water intake and was eating a dirty Keto- no sugar and under 30 carbs per day. Most cheese is fine on Keto of any kind and eggs are a staple. 1. When we eat complex carbs our body needs in “good” vegetables and a few fruits, healthy protein and eliminate carbs that don’t serve us we not only eliminate diabetes but we lower our risk of heart attack and stroke by FORTY PERCENT!!! At follow up 90 days later, I’ve lost 30- now 32 lbs, my Cholesterol is amazing! My BP is terrific and I am NO LONGER A DIABETIC!!! So take your harsh ill informed comments someplace else.
Side note- do NOT eliminate all carbs if you are on diabetic meds- this is why I declined- if you take meds for T2 you MUST eat the number of carbohydrates recommended by your dr to prevent your glucose from dipping to dangerous levels. Just make sure they are great carbs and work with a goal in mind. Most will help you and if they don’t, you need to break up and find a new one. ☮️ ✌🏼

  15. This is a stupid question, but does this taste like egg?

    1. Sometimes it does to me. I think depends on the cheese used and what you put on it. I’ve heard use the egg white only but haven’t tried it yet. I toast mine afterwards because I like them crunchy. I just saw something today used only cheese with pepperonis and cooked. Looked yummy!

      1. Awesome on the toasting mention! I’ll definitely do that with my leftover chaffles, as they were kinda soggy for my first try.

        1. I made chaffles the other day for the 1st time in over a year with a different recipe & I was disappointed because they weren’t crispy. My waffle iron has a temperature setting, do I need to cook them longer or higher temp?

    2. I have heard if u leave the egg to get room temp it doesn’t have that eggy taste anymore.

    3. So far I’ve only done the reg chaffle and pizza with both I didn’t have an egg flavor/taste but that’s my taste bubs. Some ppl do notice an egg flavor. When I make the pizza kind I add a lot of Italian seasoning and all I taste is yummy cheese and pepperoni!! Soooooo good! 🤤

  16. Can you make these in a mini skillet instead of a waffle iron? I have never owned a waffle iron. I have seen the little mini ones in the stores.

    1. You could but the beauty of using a waffle iron is that it cooks the top and bottom simultaneously and creates a lot of nooks and crannies to give it that slightly crispy exterior. I would think in a mini-skillet it would come out with the texture of an omelet vs. bread/waffle texture. I’ve not tested to be sure. Just get a mini waffle maker. They’re $10 and so worth it.

    2. How about crumbling up some cooked bacon to go in the batter? Or sprinkle it across the waffle iron before adding the egg mixture. I think this would be a yummy addition.

      1. You can literally add whatever your heart desires. Crumbled sausage, sautéed onions or peppers (or both), top with smashed avocado, diced ham, green onions, spices (ohhh these can be switched up on so many different levels, but my favorite is Goya Sazonador Total), etc. Don’t be afraid to try something new <3

  17. I actually have a question…. On the macros, is the 1g sugar only if you serve it with the syrup? Or regardless? Thanks ! I love this recipe by the way!

    1. Cheese has a very small amount of carbohydrate, about half a gram per slice. The 1 gram is from the cheese used in the chaffle and not from any topping you might add.

      1. Do you melt the cheese before mixing with the eggs?

  18. I cut the recipe in half and it made two full chaffles. I used finely shredded mozzarella and topped them with one ounce of avocado. Delish! Great breakfast. I’ll make this often. I will also try the garlic parmesan chaffles soon. Thanks for a quick and easy recipe.

  19. I made the chaffles.. but mine have become flat
. They are not fluffy.. may i know why.. i added 2 eggs.. 1tbsp heavy cream and one slice of mozeralla cheese..

    1. Have you tried it with shredded cheese? The sliced cheese may have resulted in the flat chaffles.

    2. maybe it was the slice of cheese , try using shredded

    3. It might be that you didn’t whip your eggs long enough. I learned from Waffle House that the secret to really fluffy eggs is in the strenuous whipping to get all the tough fibers out. In fact, they actually put theirs in a blender for a few seconds! I started whipping mine a little longer and always get good fluffy eggs now.

  20. I’ve made several different chaffle recipes, but this one is my favorite and my go-to. Making more today! They taste way too good to be so simple! 🙂

  21. The chaffle was great. That is the one I was able to make with that cheap Chinese waffle iron that you recommend. One waffle and it’s done. You shouldn’t recommend using such shoddy products.

    1. I have a dash and it works well. Have had the same one for 3 yrs. Possibly yours is defective. The product itself is not shoddy.

    2. Everyone is a critic! How bout thanks for the recipe and keep the rest to yourself

    3. Maybe you got a bad one. Thousands of 5 star reviews. Maybe you should learn how to use it….. yes that sounds as dumb as you blaming her because your waffle iron broke. You a defective product blame the company. If it didn’t state it was a one use waffle iron then obviously the problem is with this one particular waffle iron.

    4. I’ve had this little waffle maker for quite awhile and it’s working just fine.

    5. So I’ve recently started down the chaffle path. When I’m making waffles to use with some keto syrup I always use egg whites and mozzarella a little cinnamon a tsp of coconut or almond flour. My favorite that has been running my life for 3 weeks has been mini chaffle pizzas. I use 3/4 cup shredded chedder and jack cheese. 1 lg egg, one egg white, then I cook up toppings, sausage, peppers, bacon pepperoni really anything taste great and for sauce I actually use a thin layer of siracha. This makes about 3 mini pizzas. I pop them in the air fryer for about 3-4 minutes and they come out amazing, even compared to a regular pizza I’d take these any day. Cooked some for not keto friends and they say the same.

      1. That sounds amazing Travis!! I am going to have to try that later this week. I have been keto since January and I just have not tried chaffels until today. So yummy. Can’t wait to try them as little pizzas. Oh… and siracha is my favorite.

  22. OMG! i prepared this today for BF.. I cut the recipe in half as im not a big eater and it was perfect . 2 chaffles. then i fried an egg in butter so i would get more nurition and fat and had a cup of coffee with 1/2 Tbsp of coconut oil…..thank you for the 2g total recipe. i saved one chaffle to eat at lunch today with my avocodo!!!!

  23. Hi, can you make these out of just egg whites with cheese?

    1. I haven’t tested chaffles with just egg whites. Since the quantity is so small, I would suggest you try it with one chaffle and see how it turns out!

    2. Eggs whites are my preferred method when making a sweet chaffle, even when I make my pizza ones I will use one full egg and then add 1 egg white. Egg whites are 100% delicious and don’t leave so much of an eggy taste.

  24. So yummy! Just made this and added 1 slice of thick cut cottage bacon to the mix and topped with some homemade pesto (no pine nuts) for a huge breakfast with only 4 net carbs. (I’m guilty, I ate 3 of the 4 mini waffles)! Thank you for such a delicious Chaffle recipe, I will totally make this again.

  25. Thank You for your wonderful recipes I loved my basic Chaffle.

  26. Super easy and delicious with just the right Bite or Chew quality! Yum! I added some leftover shredded zucchini as a way to sneak in some vegetables.

    1. Great idea in the shredded zucchini! I’m trying it now!

  27. So easy to make! Got my dasher mini waffle maker in today and tried it. Yummy!!!

    1. I made the blueberry chaffles for breakfast and they were so yummy.

      1. Have u tried with fresh strawberries? I have strawberries in my fridge and thought that sounded good.

      2. What kind of cheese did you use with the blueberries
