Ingredients needed

This avocado bread recipe is truly made with just 3 ingredients, plus a little something extra for flavor. Here’s what you need:

  • Avocado: This is a great way to use up any avocados that are getting overripe.
  • Egg: The egg binds the ingredients together and helps the bread bake properly.
  • Cheese: We like to use shredded mozzarella cheese but shredded cheddar cheese or even shredded pepper jack would be delicious!
  • Optional: Add a sprinkle of everything bagel seasoning or salt for a little extra flavor. This is up to you!

How to make this recipe

This bread recipe comes together in about 5 minutes with just 3 ingredients! It could not be easier to make! Here’s how:

Mix ingredients: Add avocado, egg, and cheese into a medium bowl. Mash with a fork and mix until well combined.

Bake in the oven: Preheat oven to 400ºF. Line a sheet pan with parchment paper. Divide the mixture into 4 balls and transfer onto parchment paper. Use your spoon to form a patty shape. Sprinkle with everything bagel seasoning or salt if desired. Bake for 20 minutes or until golden.

Bake in the air fryer: Pre-heat the air fryer to 400ºF. Line the air fryer basket with parchment paper. Divide the mixture into 2-3 balls and transfer onto parchment paper. Use your spoon to form a patty shape. Sprinkle with everything bagel seasoning or salt if desired. Bake for 20 minutes or until golden.

Expert Tips

  • Avocado: When buying avocados, look for an avocado that is slightly soft to the touch and has a dark green color.
  • Cheese: Freshly grated cheese from a block will yield the best flavor.
  • Make it egg-free: To make this bread without the egg, use a flax egg instead.

Because avocado bread is made with just avocado, egg and cheese, you can easily customize it with different flavors! Here are some to try:

  • Make it spicy: To kick up the heat, add finely chopped jalapeño or red pepper flakes to the dough.

This bread is delicious as-is, but it’s also the perfect base for tasty toppings, and can even be used as sandwich bread.

  • Make it into a breakfast sandwich with scrambled or fried eggs and bacon or sausage.
  • Try it with smoked salmon, a spread of cream cheese, and capers.

Storage recommendations

  1. I have made this with mozzarella and with cheddar. Both were great. I baked for about 25 minutes. I will be making this regularly.

    1. Thanks for taking the time to leave a review, Pam! Enjoy ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Yes you can freeze in zipbags and reheat in the microwave or toaster as needed.

  2. Hello,

What non dairy product could be used for binding?

  3. It was OK. I do wish it said what size avocado to use.
I had a small one and it did not work as good and
    there was to much cheese.
My Air fryer temp was to high.

  4. I was not prepared for how delicious this is! I am also glad I read all the tips in the post. I used 1 egg white, and cheddar, omitting seasoning. About 3/4 through the air fryer they were firm enough to flip and toast the other side. A sprinkle of salt after. Amazing! I just had the best breakfast sandwich of my life! (and had to “store” the remaining piece in my tummy) These should come with a warning because they are that tasty

  5. Sooooo good!! I try to eat more avocado but not a huge fan of it alone. These are so good and easy to make!!!

    1. I’ve never tried frying it and I don’t know how it will hold up! It may work if it’s just lightly pan seared like a pancake.

      1. I love this! It’s very good and very versatile. My question though is I wonder if I can make it in batches and freeze it. How would you thaw and/or reheat?

    2. Delicious! Added Tabasco to batter. Sprinkled with Primal Palate.

  6. This was really good!!! The avocado gives it some โ€œ breadโ€ texture, much better than just cheese & egg.
It was pretty good with tuna salad for lunch! โœ…

  7. Love this recipe. The only thing I will add is that the patties need to be turned over and baked on the other side.

  8. Hi,
Are you sure about the calories/carb count posted? There is very little overall carbs in all 3 ingredients so curious how its 7 net carbs per servingโ€ฆ..even the entire recipe shouldnโ€™t be that high. thanks

    1. Thanks for pointing that out!! That was for the entire recipe. I’ve gone ahead and updated the results. It’s more like 1.5G per serving but 2 if you don’t subtract the sugar.

  9. This is a great recipe! I amended this recipe by using egg whites, adding one cup of chopped kale, 1/2 cup sweet onion, and combined Asiago and Mozzarella cheeses. OMG! delicious and satisfying.

  10. Can you substitute pre made guacamole cups instead of fresh avocados? And if so how many cups for one fresh avocado?

    1. I haven’t tried it with fresh guacamole due to the lime and other additions but if you do try it, I would do about 1 cup of guac.

    2. I have made this a couple times using the individual cups from Aldi. I use 1 cup and 1 egg, then about 1/2 the cheese called for in original recipe. They turned out fine. I have also kept some in the fridge a day or 2 before using… still good.

  11. It was good, I didnโ€™t have shredded cheese only slice cheese so I improvised I slice two piece of cheese with a knife to get it small enough like shedded! I mixed in everything like you said! Was good but next Iโ€™ll do it with ranch dressing for dip!

  12. First time trying wish I would’ve known about this recipe sooner
I used sharp cheddar cheese & everything bagel seasoning thats what I had laying around . This had Amazing flavor
look forward to trying different cheese variations in future

  13. Great recipe. Thank you ๐Ÿ™‚ I noticed that the macros say 721 calories for 1 bread. I am thinking it is safe to assume that the overall batch = that many calories. Looking forward to more awesome recipes!

  14. Absolutely DELICIOUS! I LOVE avocado, so this is just another way for me to enjoy it! Such a healthy way to make a sandwich or top with scrambled eggs and cheese. Well done!!

  15. Tried these today for my husband and they look amazing! Will see what his opinion is when he comes in for dinner!
    Easy!

    1. I haven’t tried making it in advance and I don’t know how the avocado would hold up. Please let us know if you do try. Thanks!

  16. It was so easy to prepare and delicious. My family loved it!

    1. I used my Airfryer for this . The bread was done in 11 mins… almost burned tthe 20 mins per instruction seem too long.

  17. This was really easy and very yummy!!!! This is definitely going on my weekly rotation of meals

  18. DELISH & EASY TO PREPARE TO MAKE I’m making a batch for someone as I type ๐Ÿ™‚ I made scrambled egg sandwich the other day it was so good plus quite filling
