How to make this recipe

Curried chicken sliders are simple to make and come together in no time! Here are step-by-step instructions:

  • Marinate: In a medium bowl, combine the chicken pieces, yogurt, oil, lemon, garlic and spices. Mix to combine and cover. Marinate in the fridge for 30 minutes or up to 48 hours.
  • Cook: Heat a heavy-duty pan over medium-high heat. Add marinated chicken mixture, onion, and bell pepper. Cook on high heat for 8-10 minutes or until cooked through.
  • Make the sauce and herb butter: In a small bowl whisk all the ingredients for the sauce. In another bowl, whisk the ingredients for the herb butter. Preheat the oven to 375ºF. Line a 9×13-inch baking dish with foil and coat lightly with nonstick spray, oil, or butter.
  • Assemble: Slice the slider rolls in half, and place the bottoms evenly into the prepared pan. Spread the sauce evenly onto both sides of the rolls (from the inside). Top with the chicken mixture and sprinkle with a generous layer of cheese.

Expert Tips

  • Fenugreek: If you aren’t familiar with fenugreek seeds, these are a staple in Indian cooking. They have a sweet, nutty flavor similar to maple syrup. It will add depth of flavor to the chicken.
  • Heat level: If you’re sensitive to heat, feel free to omit the hot sauce from the mayo mixture.
  • Grate your own cheese: If you have the time, we recommend grating the cheese from a block. It will have better flavor and melt much more smoothly.
  • Line the dish: Don’t forget to line the baking dish with foil! It will make clean-up a breeze. If you don’t have foil, generously spray it with nonstick spray.
  • Bake uncovered: There is no need to cover the dish before baking. You want the tops of the rolls to get nice and golden. And covering the dish could make them a bit soggy.

Frequently asked questions

What are chicken sliders made of?

There are a variety of ingredients that can be used to make chicken sliders. Typically, they include either chopped or shredded chicken, some type of creamy sauce, and plenty of cheese on a buttery roll.

What goes with chicken sliders?

We like to serve curried chicken sliders as part of an appetizer spread, but they’re also great for meals with sides like French friespotato wedgescrispy zucchini chips or baked mac and cheese!

How many sliders make a meal?

If you’re planning to serve these for a weeknight dinner or want to make sure you have enough food to go around for a party, we recommend planning on 3 mini sandwiches per adult. Kids would probably eat 1 to 2, and you will also want to think about the other food you’re serving. If you have plenty of heavy appetizers, you could probably get by with 1 per person. However, it’s best to make more than you think you will need.

Variations

These are SO good as-is, but here are some tasty ways to change them up!

  • Meat: These sliders work great with either boneless chicken thighs or chicken breasts.
  • Cheese: Use any cheese you like best that melts well. Aside from mozzarella cheese, cheddar cheese, pepper jack cheese or Colby jack cheese work great.
  • Buns: We love using Hawaiian roll slider buns! They stay attached, so they’re easy to work with, and they have a hint of sweetness that pairs great with the savory filling.
  • Filling additions: You can leave out the onion and bell pepper or add other preferred vegetables like sautéed mushrooms or cabbage slaw.

Storage recommendations

Sliders are best served hot and straight from the oven to avoid any sogginess, however they will keep for a few days. Here are our tips for storing:

  • Storing: Store leftover sliders in an airtight container for 2-3 days.
  • Reheating: The best way to reheat leftover sliders is in the oven, so they crisp up and aren’t soggy. Place in the oven for 15-20 minutes at 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Or try them in the air fryer for about 4 minutes at 350 degrees F.

  1. What kind of fenugreek did u use? I have both dried and seeds. I donโ€™t see the either in your list. All I see is powdered spices. Thanks
